SUMMARY:Observe a Teaching Award Winner with Dr. Kristina Nielsen
DESCRIPTION:\n\nYou're invited to observe Dr. Kristina Nielsen\, a 2024
Golden Mustang Award Winner\, for a session of her Introduction to Critical
Music Studies course. This course introduces the skills of critical
reasoning\, research methods\, and argumentative writing through the lens
of music studies. As a global practice influenced by historical\,
 cultural\, social\, religious\, and political beliefs and systems\, music
is a prime vehicle for developing research questions that apply critical
reasoning and related skills. Drawing on perspectives and practices from
across various fields of music studies (historical musicology\,
 ethnomusicology\, music theory\, music psychology\, music sociology\,
etc.)\, students learn to build sound arguments\, distinguish strong from
weak conclusions\, become information literate\, and write clearly and
effectively. This course satisfies the CC Critical Reasoning (CR)
Foundation requirement. Students who have already taken another course that
fulfills the Critical Reasoning requirement cannot take this course.
Prerequisites: C- or better in WRTR 1312\, WRTR 2303\, or WRTR 2305 or
appropriate transfer credit.\n\nThere are 15-30 students in this
undergraduate-level class. In this session\, the topic covered is AI
technologies and writing/logic\, as well as the related topic of
plagiarism.\n\nIf you choose to attend this session\, the instructor will
introduce you to the class and explain why you are there.\n\nPlease note
that you will receive an Outlook calendar invite with the class location
 after registering.
