Division of Theatre: A Musical Adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in the Meadows School of the Arts

Division of Theatre: A Musical Adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in the Meadows School of the Arts

NOTE: This is an event for NEW/INCOMING FACULTY ONLY.

As part of this last Discover SMU event of the fall term, we will be joining in a conversation with the director, Tiana Blair, our very own SMU colleague, prior to enjoying Twelfth Night. Named one of the best theatrical productions of 2018 by Time, The Hollywood Reporter and The Washington Post, Twelfth Night is a rousing contemporary musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy about mistaken identity and self-discovery. Featuring an original jazz-funk score by Shaina Taub in a new adaptation by Kwame Kwei-Armah, Twelfth Night tells the story of Viola, a young heroine who washes up on the shores of Illyria, disguises herself as a man, is sent to court a countess and falls hard for a Duke. As she navigates this strange and wonderful new land, she finds her true self and true love in the process.

The show begins at 2:00 pm in the Bob Hope Theater, Owen Arts Center, 6101 Bishop Blvd. Join us at 1:00 pm for drinks and a pre-production conversation with the director.
