[In-Person] Privatized Medicare: Successes, Challenges, and Opportunities In-Person
Description: Since 1997, Medicare beneficiaries have had the option of obtaining health benefits through government-funded private plans via the "Medicare Advantage" system. Today, more than a third of seniors opt-in to this program. What's working? What isn't? Perhaps most importantly, what can we learn from Medicare Advantage about health care delivery more broadly? Professor Keaton Miller will report on the results of more than a decade of research on the Medicare Advantage system aimed at answering these questions and more.
Bio: Keaton Miller is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Oregon, where he focuses on the economics of competition, health insurance, and substance use policy. Professor Miller's research has appeared in the Journal of Public Economics, Review of Industrial Organization, Economic Inquiry, and National Tax Journal, among other outlets, and he has advised policymakers around the country at the state and federal levels. Professor Miller holds a B.S. in math and economics from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Minnesota.
