Alternative Attendance Policies

Alternative Attendance Policies In-Person / Online

Requiring classroom attendance can improve some students’ learning, but it has drawbacks, including logistical hassles, spreading contagion, and penalizing the grades of some students who successfully master the course material.  This presentation considers alternative policies that attempt to achieve the same pedagogical goals in ways that arguably are more fair and flexible.

This presentation is led by Dr. Justin Fisher, a Spring 2026 CTE Faculty Affiliate.
