Better by Design: Using AI Tools to Backward Design and Improve Your Academic Program

Better by Design: Using AI Tools to Backward Design and Improve Your Academic Program In-Person / Online

Is your academic program (major, minor, Master’s degree, Doctoral degree) designed according to best practice?  Has it kept pace with changes in your field?  Does it deliver to students the skills they need to be successful?  Does the structure of your degree cultivate mastery in your discipline?  One way to make sure that your program is thoughtful, coherent, and current is to use the process of backward design to ensure that you have clear, relevant learning outcomes and that the structure of the program reflects and supports these outcomes.  With the advent of AI tools, such as ChatGPT and SteppingBlocks, backward designing your program is easier than ever.  Join this session and let us show you how you can use AI tools and backward design to rebuild, reinvigorate, or regenerate your program.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Apply principles of Backward Design to academic programs.
  2. Use AI tools, such as ChatGPT and SteppingBlocks, to generate meaningful student learning outcomes.
  3. Combine AI tools and principles of Backward Design to create thoughtful, well-structured, meaningful Academic Programs.

Note that the image for this session was designed using ChatGPT 4.o and the prompt "create an image of a diverse set of college professors in a meeting to discuss program-level design."
