Assessment in the Age of Gen AI: Return of the Oral Exam In-Person / Online
Among the many great and powerful abilities gen AI has introduced, it has also introduced some uncertainty as to what students do and do not know and what they do and do not do with respect to classwork and exams. Enter (reenter) the oral exam. In this session, Spring 2024 CTE Affiliate Dr. Bivin Sadler will share the experience of giving an oral (final) exam to the Summer 2023 graduate students who took Statistics 1 in the MSDS program. He polled them as to their thoughts and anxieties before and after the test with very interesting results; the test was a complete success. :). He gave another oral exam to the Fall 2023 cohort and is able to compare and contrast the results in the Spring of 2024.
