ESL Workshop- Academic Writing with Clarity In-Person

Clear writers get to the subject, verb, and object quickly, and coordinate additional, more complex information later in a sentence.

Academic writing often demands that we discuss complex ideas in long sentences. When we write long, complex sentences, we face several challenges. In this workshop, we discuss four principles to bear in mind when composing such sentences, principles that ensure that the meaning of a long sentence is clear to our readers.

Writing with Clarity

Writing clearly in English is a challenge for native and non-native writers alike. What is it in a sentence that makes readers judge it as complex and unclear or as direct and easily understood? What general principles can we follow that will enable us to revise a sentence so that readers will judge it as clear and concise? These are the questions we will explore throughout these workshops.

These ESL writing workshops are designed to unravel the complexities of crafting clear and concise English sentences, a challenge faced by both native and non-native writers. Through interactive sessions, we delve into the intricacies of sentence structure, uncovering what makes writing seem complex or straightforward to readers. Participants will learn and apply general principles of clarity and conciseness, empowering them to revise and enhance their writing for improved readability and impact. Join us to explore these fundamental questions and elevate your writing skills.
