SMU Tower Center Event – National Security Symposium 2024 In-Person
The SMU Tower Center presents the National Security Conference 2024 - The United States and the UN Security Council: Lessons Learned and Challenges Ahead.
The United Nations Security Council authorizes military interventions by powerful states, deploys international observers and peacekeepers, imposes economic sanctions, and coordinates global counterterrorism efforts. This year’s National Security Symposium explores the UN Security Council’s unique role as a platform for great power cooperation, illuminates its potential as a tool for legitimizing and amplifying the reach of U.S. national security policy, and clarifies how growing tensions among the world’s major powers have impacted the Council’s workings.
